Albadapt – Program for Climate-Resilient Urban Development in Albania

The Climate Resilient Urban Development Program in Albania, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the governments of Albania, Germany and Switzerland, implemented by GIZ and the National Civil Protection Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, organized a meeting in cooperation with the Municipality of Durres and with experts from MetroPOLIS & Co-PLAN. Strategic documents for the Municipality of Durres will be obtained from this program.

The drafting of local strategic documents on disaster risk assessment, risk reduction strategy and civil emergency plan are fundamental documents for planning concrete measures in terms of prevention, preparedness and timely response to natural phenomena. With the support of GIZ Albania, we started the process of drafting these documents, as part of an initiative involving 12 local government units of the Durrës and Vlorë regions.

The process will be inclusive with local stakeholders to ensure the creation of a municipal standard and capacity building involving communities, especially vulnerable groups. The Civil Protection Committee at the municipal level takes an important role in this process as part of the working group for the drafting of risk reduction documents.

The three documents will be compiled in accordance with Law 45/2019 'On Civil Protection', the National Risk Assessment document, the National Risk Reduction Strategy and the National Emergency Plan, drafted by the National Civil Protection Agency, where the Durrës Region is identified as one of the priority areas due to its high exposure to natural disasters.
