Durrës is a city with an ancient culture, due to its ancient origins. The city has inherited many values of the past, historical and archaeological centers such as the Amphitheater, the Byzantine Wall, the Venetian Tower, the Castle Surrounding Wall, but also cultural and religious centers such as the ruins of the Basilica in Arapaj, the Rodonit Castle, etc. The city today preserves many traces of later culture, contributing to the production of internationally valuable personalities such as Aleksandër Moisiu, who was born in Kavajë and grew up and formed in Durrës. The city has had consolidated cultural institutions, such as a variety theater, a folk song and dance ensemble, a professional theater, which still gives performances for the public today, professional musical groups, etc. Also, national and international activities are organized in Durrës, such as the international film festival, the jazz music festival, the poetic poetry competition, etc. The ethnography of Durrës belongs to the culture of Central Albania, where women dress in dresses and vests, and wear a small headscarf decorated with imitation coins, while men wear trousers, black woolen jackets or red vests, and wear flat-topped hats on their heads. The songs and dances also belong to the culture and traditions of Central Albania.
