Durres Baby House

The Durres Infant's Home has been operating as such since 1957 (a full half a century).
From year to year the quality of the service has been increasing, in 1997 the Hopen and Homes for Children association contributed to the reconstruction of the building and in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs they made it possible to change and restructure the building in Shkozet to be closer to contemporary standards. In 2005 the State Social Service approved two other services to help the community. These services are:

• 24-hour service for residential children aged 0-6 years
• Family support service
• Daily service for children aged 3-6 from the most vulnerable families in rural areas of Durres

In January 2006, the residential children of this Institution were relocated and accommodated in two family homes with very good conditions, donated by the association.

During the 50-year period, this institution has carried out its activities in several buildings such as:

       1. Building near the Martyrs Museum (Old Befotrofi)
       2. At the Surgery (Bird's Cottage)
       3. Former Marteniteti (Main Boulevard)
       4. In Shkozet

The main objectives are:

• Preventing the Institutionalization of Children
• Child rearing and education
• Return to biological family
• Healthcare
• Advocacy (For the protection of children)
• Adoption The latter is the best possible alternative and in the best interest of the child.

The Durres Children's Home is a State institution and is financed by the Ministry of Labor. The staff of the children's home is a staff trained in the field of social services for the best and most efficient service for children.

Main goal

Adoption of Children Implementation of the Family Code and in cooperation with the Albanian Adoption Committee to contribute to the placement of abandoned children in a warm family home
