Thessaloniki’s selection as host of the CIVITAS Forum 2026 is more than a recognition, it is a statement of intent. It reflects the city’s dynamic transition toward sustainable urban mobility, while spreading light on the strategic role of Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)/Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT), Lead Partner of the TERRAIN project, as co-hosts of this flagship European event.
Positioned at the intersection of innovation and impact, CERTH/HIT stands as a driving force behind Thessaloniki’s mobility transformation. With a strong portfolio of EU-funded initiatives and deep engagement within the CIVITAS community, it seamlessly connects research excellence with policy development and real-world application. From transport modelling, intelligent transport systems, Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), evidence-based planning to logistics optimisation, tourism–mobility integration and low-carbon urban solutions, CERTH/HIT is actively shaping the future of sustainable mobility – locally and across Europe.
A standout moment of the Forum will be a high-impact joint workshop, co-organised with the TERRAIN project/Interreg IPA ADRION Programme, the IPA ADRION Thematic Cluster on Low-Carbon Urban Mobility, the REFOCUS project (Interreg Europe), the Hellenic Ministry of Transport, POLIS Network and the Municipality of Oslo on ‘Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning’. Through this initiative, CERTH/HIT extends an open invitation to TERRAIN partners, stakeholders and forward-looking cities to join the dialogue, exchange knowledge, and unlock new opportunities for upscaling and replication.
We are waiting for you to CIVTAS Forum from 15-17 September 2026 in the coastal city of Thessaloniki, Greece!
