Zagreb expands its public bike-sharing system

The City of Zagreb is strengthening its commitment to sustainable urban mobility through the expansion of its public bike-sharing systemBajs. The initiative is closely connected to the TERRAIN pilot activities, which focus on reallocating urban space towards active mobility modes and encouraging more sustainable transport behaviours.

Following strong user uptake during the first six months of operation, the city has launched the new Bajs 2.0 package. The improvements are based on mobility data and feedback collected from citizens, highlighting a growing demand for public bicycles as part of everyday urban mobility.

After the summer, the system will be expanded with 1,000 additional bicycles, increasing bike availability by around 50%. The network will also grow to a total of 195 stations across the city. The upgrade includes 28 new stations, while 12 of the least-used locations will be relocated or removed in order to better reflect actual travel patterns and user needs.

This initiative represents another important step in Zagreb’s broader strategy to promote active mobility, improve the quality of urban life and create a more sustainable and accessible city environment.

Known for its green spaces, high quality of life and strong social policies, Zagreb continues to invest in people-centred urban development, combining sustainability, innovation and citizen wellbeing.
